Streetstar Festival will present Urban Dance at it´s best!

Scandinavias biggest Streetdance event is moving out to the beautiful island Djurgården in Stockholm.

Two days of preselections in by the sea at Wasahamnen and the last day on the marvelous venue Cirkus!

Three days of high level international battles, party and fantastic workshops with the international guests! All representing in their own field of true communication – uniqueness, quality and flavor of Global Urban Street Culture!

ALL THAT FUNK  –  3 vs 3 (1 Breaking, 1 Locking and 1 Popping)

The best dancers in Popping, Locking and Breaking will go together in a 3 vs 3 battle in this new concept that will definitely be Funky. Music plays a big part in our dance styles and Funk is one of the main ingredients. The judges are of a high international standard and the Swedish dancers level of Funk styles are high, so we expect the best of the best in this cathegory!

Preselection, Quarter is held on Saturday May 10 at Wasahamnen and the semi finals and Final is held on Sunday May 11 at Cirkus.

VOGUE BALL  –  Solo  (Runway, Old Way, New Way, Femme)

Welcome to a fabulous journey through the glamourus spectrum of the underground world of Clubbing

– THE STREETSTAR GLOBAL GLAMOUR BALL!

A culture sprung out of Harlem with roots in the 30s and in the drag queen scene. Inspired formost by fashion, hence the name Vogue. This year we bring the Ballroom scene to Sweden with categories like New way, Old, Way, Vogue femme & Runway. Vogue is a wide culture now spreading and evolving all over the world.

We have invited the top international queens and kings to enhance the Streetstar Ball 2014 experience.

We have now landed in the land of dreams and dollars and here anything is possible and only the sky is the limit- Bring out the Dream in You!

Next stop on our journey is in the great continent of the East with historical culture from the ancient Geishas and Samurajs to the High Tech world of Manga!

Theme Vogue Femme: ”AFRICA GLAMOUR”
On this colorful safari we take you all the way Back to the Roots and the Motherland of Africa!

Theme Runway: ”LATIN GLAMOUR”
No matter if you want to be on the Copacabana or in the deep jungle of the Amazon. This colorful explosion is only about – Who got the Walk and the Look to Die for!

BREAKING BATTLES  –  Crew & Solo

Streetstar Breaking battles is one of the most significant b-boy battles in northern Europe. Most of the top European crews are represented in the Crew Battles. We have invited some the top B-boys in the world to judge and participate in the Solo 1 vs 1 battle.

Preselection, Quarter and semi for CREW is held on Friday May 9 and the Final is held on Sunday May 11 at Cirkus.
Preselection, Quarter for SOLO is held on Saturday May 10 and the semi finals and Final is held on Sunday May 11 at Cirkus.

WHACKING  –  2 vs 2

Get ready for some really hot Whacking dancers. After a huge success from last years Streetstar battles, we can only expect its going to be Nasty 2014. Welcome to the world of the Underground.

Dance style with roots in 1970s gay club culture on the U.S. West Coast. Its original name was ‘PUNKING”. And the description given was WHACKING which means to strike with force. And that movement was inspired by silent movies, animation (cartoons:example Bugs Bunny, and Martial Arts) Pictures of Hollywood Movie Stars of the 30′s 40′s and 50′s and it’s Musicals. And its popularity was resurrected in early 2000 as WHACKING.

INTERNATIONAL DANCEHALL BATTLES  –  3 vs 3

Dancehall is a music and dance style from Jamaica. The dancehall culture emerged from Ska and Roots reggae in the late 70′s. It’s a social dance that comes alive in parties and clubs. Dancehall is a personal expression of its practitioners, it is important to be creative and everyday life is often expressed in dance.

The style itself reflects Jamaica’s environment turquoise waters and swaying palm trees, and at the same time hard street life and tough attitudes. Dancehall is one of the Caribbean’s largest international cultures.

Preselection is held on Friday May 9 and Quarter, Semi and Final is held on Saturday May 10 at Wasahamnen.

HIP HOP BATTLES  –  1 vs 1

For the first time Streetstar arranges their own Hip Hop battles during the Festival. The concept is new: The international jury enters the battles after having selected the best dancers from the preselections. Those selected dancers will then also become part of the judges panel.
There is sure to be hot battles on a high international level! Get ready!
